Do you think HM The Queen will be the last monarch of the UK and N.Ireland?
I ask this because although I am and have always been a lifelong supporter of the monarchy, I just cannot see it continuing after her.
I can’t see a King Charles III (or George VII as he has expressed a interest in being known) and a Queen Camilla (or Princess Consort). I don’t think it would be the same, especially at BOTH the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s age. Although I am a supporter of both the Prince of Wales the Duchess of Cornwall, I don’t think a lot of people will accept them as taking the Queen’s place.
That leaves William and whoever he marries….Kate Middleton?
I just can’t see it continuing.
Can you?
Being American, i would have no say in it, but I can see Charles being King, if he outlives his mother, and his grandmother lived to be over 100 and the Queen is in her mid 80’s, I think and I think Prince Phillip is close to 90 if not there.
But frankly, I think it will hold out for William, I think the British people, or many would like to see "Wills’ the King, but then I don’t know. He might live until the late 21st century ( I think he was born in 1982 and could easily live until the 2080’s) and any children he has might not be king or queen until close to the 22nd century. I don’t know if any monarchies in the world, including Britain, Sweden, Norway, or even Japan will survive until then.

just can’t see it continuing.
Do you think we are going to have a revolution and it’s off with their heads or Gordon Brown is going to say let’s have a vote on the monarchy?
Doesn’t make sense!

dont be daft, its tradition, theres no massive uproar (until charlie boy comes in) and the country expects a monarchy.
the queens not just gona get up one day and say ‘mmmm think one might abdicate and dissolve the monarchy’
think before you ask these questions!!

I feel that Charles reign will be short, like Edward Vll’s was after Victoria’s
The British people will pin the hopes for the continuation of the monarchy to William.
I have no doubt that the end of the Queens reign will bring about a shift to republican for a lot of commonwealth countries and the monarchs role would be reviewed.

Sadly no.

Hello,
Most likely but Queen Elizabeth’s shoes will be very hard ones to fill as she has always acted as a monarch should with respect and dignity keeping all her personal problems or dirty laundry indoors and not being the emotional kissy - huggy type. She may well make another 15 years or so like her mother. If the monarchy is to last more than another generation or two, her children and grand children will really have to smarten up and get with it. Already there are ramblings in various commonwealth countries about letting go of the monarchy.
Cheers,
Michael Kelly

i don’t think chrles will be king but will is very popular and although our present queen will be really hard to replace i’m sure wills will make a great king we have to change with the times and be modern

No, I don’t think that Queen Elizabeth will be the last monarch of the UK and N Ireland.
Although the role of the monarchy in the UK may be further reduced in the future, one doesn’t think that the UK will eliminate having a monarch as Head of State for a very, very long time.
Having a monarch "works" for them, and the UK tends not to fool around much with the things that are actually "working".
As for N. Ireland, only N. Ireland and the Lord knows what N. Ireland is likely to do. With all the troubles that have happened in all of Ireland, seems like if they wanted to "ditch" the Royal Family, they would have already done so by now.

You either love them or loathe them the Royal Family are only figure heads and they are totally out of touch with normal day to day living it is not their fault that they are an institution that is ancient and does not or will not fit into a modern world. Even the young royals try but when they end up parting in some of the most expensive and exclusive clubs in London and have so many luxury holidays a year it does tend to p… off a hell of a lot of youngsters who will never have any of their hopes chances luck and money they have. Many of the lesser Royal hanger on’s have damaged the family beyond repair even Charles has done his fair share of humiliating the late princess Diana and then she did it to him , then you have the rumours of poor Prince Harry who is the black sheep. Personally they could be slimmed down to an acceptable level and also pay at least a share of the security as this is a laugh they put themselves in the limelight and should pay for it and also the transport and alas the carbon footprint of Prince Andrew . They need to face reality like all the other snotty nose snobs who have more money than sense. Also when the Queen was crowned she was anointed with oil and she serves God as well and this means that she will be Queen until the day she dies as an anointed figure, if Charles is also anointed he will be the same King until he dies, so William will have to wait let us hope that poor Katie waity his girlfriend will still not be waiting.

She may very well be the last Queen of a United Kingdom…
As many people know, the support for Independence in Scotland is growing and is highest than its ever been before…
Its still just a minority of Scots who want Independence….
BUT! At the general election this year,
The majority of the UK (England) will vote for a Conservative government which will upset a lot of the millions of labour voters in Scotland as mostly all Scots despise a tory government…
Which means a lot of the Scottish Labour voters will turn to the Scottish National Party and the support to seperate from the Conservative run British Government will grow at a rate we cant even imagine…
The SNP (who will still be in power at the next general election) will then hold a referendum on Independence…. Which the people will vote FOR! therefore in the next 10 years at least…. Scotland will leave the United Kingdom !
Although Scotland would leave the Union…
The Union of the Crown which is a different matter altogether would remain the same.
The only difference is Queen Elizabeth would be known as Queen Elizabeth I of Scotland as there never was a Queen Elizabeth in Scotland before.
When Scotland leaves the UK, which it will, then im not sure If there will still be a UK… it may still continue as The United Kingdom of England,Wales & Northern Ireland…

I think the Monarchy will continue when Queen Elizabeth II
dies, whether it’s Charles or William on the throne.
We have always had a Monarchy, and I don’t expect there
will be any call for a republic, despite the vocal minority!
