who is wrong here and what should i do? (long)?
my fiance and i have been together for 2 years now and had a baby this last October. he lost his job in August due to the company failing and unfortunately hasn’t been able to get anything but odd jobs. his father told us that he would go get a place big enough for all of us and don’t worry about paying anything until we got income, on top of the bills was a truck payment that started in march that we were taking care of but his father once again said not to worry about it (i did pay 1000 dollars of my own money towards it and have never used it myself). i didn’t have a good feeling about it, but we went and stay with him now. since the baby has been born he has threatened to kick us out on the streets more than 3 times, not caring what would happen to us. his mother is unwilling to help us beyond giving us a few bucks for groceries or what she has in her fridge. we get WIC but cannot get unemployment and the waiting list for other programs is too long ot help at this point. his father threatened to kick us out again almost a few days ago. this time i told my fiance that’s enough, we need out of here, we do not need to like like this esp. with our baby. his father also said that we cannot use the truck, which strands us to the house. i called my family and they decided to help us and we would move out of state to my aunts house and we can stay there and get work and the waiting lists for anything up there are dramatically shorter. my mother and grandma would be moving too so we wouldn’t be stuck there. we were able to sell enough of our things to make 4500 and tonight his dad decides that we can have the truck, IF we but his sister a car or fix her broken one. the sister started crying and threw a tantrum because she wanted the truck and told us to buy her a 4200 car that needs a 250 part to run. his dad also said that if she doesn’t have her own car to get to work that we cant take the truck anyways no matter how much we give her. i said this is messed up, his father would still be making the payments and could legally take it away whenever he wanted ot still. i think we should wait until we get to where we are going ot live and get a car there. my aunt has a truck they are willing to let us use whenever we need to so we would have a car to get around in, so there is no big rush.

do you think it is any our responsibility to fix his sisters car when it would cost less for us to get our own?
do you think we should just forget this truck and go our own way and wash our hands of the situation?

i am stuck because if nothing else happened, it would give us more money to be able to use later, but his dad will still legally have the truck to take away or whatever. on the other hand, we could wait and see what cars are where we are going when we get there and not have to worry about being dependent on his family anymore, and have less money to do anything else with. i’m stuck, we are leaving in 2 weeks and need to know NOW so we know how we are leaving

If it were me i wouldn’t care. It sounds like he’s playing games with you - the whole i’ll do this for you but you have to do this for me kinda thing. So i would leave without it. If he does say something, which he probably will, then say that as you decided to pay the truck payments you can do what you want with the truck. Say it nicely but he really doesn’t have anything worth hearing after you’ve said that. Play nicely so you remain golden and not stooped down to a control freak like him.

Oh and if his sister can drive and still has little tanties, i would smack her one…

My mother recently replied to a craigslist posting from a man in England who will be moving to the US and needs a housekeeper. This posting seems odd for a numer of reasons, also there is another posting from a man in Italy with a lot of the same characteristics.
